DUBAI SPORTS COUNCIL SUPPORTS "RIGHT TO PLAY" WALKATHON
Dubai Sports Council will support "Right To Play" who are organizing a five-kilometer Walkathon on Friday, April 17, in collaboration with Knowledge Human Development Authority in order to raise awareness of the benefits of sport, play and good health.
Dubai, UAE (April 15, 2009)– Dubai Sports Council announced their support for "Right To Play" who is organizing a five-kilometer Walkathon on Friday April 17 at 8:30am to raise awareness for children's basic rights to play and better health. The walkathon starts at the Creek Park (Gate No.4) and concludes at the Indian High School stadium.
The announcement came in a press conference held on Wednesday at Dubai Sports Council by Dr. Ahmed Al Sharif, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council. Also in attendance was Samer Kamal, Director for Business Development at Right To Play, key representatives from DSC and the event organizers. In his introduction speech, Dr. Ahmed Al Sharif stressed the importance of the event and the vital role it plays in raising the awareness of sport and play and its contribution towards healthier children.
“We at DSC strive to engage all segments of the UAE community to take part in such events for sports to promote a healthier lifestyle and we therefore are pleased to support Right To Play in their mission towards a better life and healthier children,“ Dr Sharif said.
He also explained that, “This comes as part of implementing DSC’s strategic objectives which stems from the wise guidance of our leadership who believe in building strategic partnerships with key organizations to develop effective programs that serve our community.”
DSC has been focusing on joining efforts with agencies and departments and ministries operating in health and education sectors to help increase community awareness of sport and play and its contribution towards a healthier lifestyle.
On behalf of Right To Play, Samer Kamal, thanked DSC for the tremendous role they are playing in supporting this big event and the big cause which it serves and that is to create a healthier and safer world through the power of sport and play.
He also thanked the Knowledge Human Development Authority and event sponsors for their support. Mr. Kamal who is also the organizer of the event briefed the attendees on the Walkathon route and its safety. He also provided a brief on route stations and water booths that will be available along.
A lead sponsor to this event is the Indian High School in Dubai, whose director Ashok Kumar prompted students to participate in “Walk for Right to Play” for strongly believing in Right To Play’s objectives and means to help children through sports and play.
Sponsored by various companies including Apparel Group, Dubai Refreshment Company, Spice Radio and Leader Sport, Right To Play Walkathon is expected to draw many participants from the local community and public and private schools.
All proceeds from this Walkathon will go towards Right To Play’s programs that benefit children around the world.
